News & Announcements

Good afternoon! I have attached a letter from Cody Harris, our State Representative, to Mike Morath, Texas Education Commissioner.

Representative Harris is calling for the suspension of the STAAR test and adjustment to the requirements for Waivers and Funding.

I have been visiting with Representative Harris as we've been on this most recent journey. He is very aware and sympathetic to our situation and is actively serving as our advocate.

I would encourage you to contact Governor Abbott and Commissioner Morath to voice your concerns related to the pressure of testing especially during this challenging time.

This situation is rapidly changing and I'm constantly gaining new information. I will be attempting to send a daily email to update you and share as much information as I feel appropriate. Some of the most valuable information will come from Commissioner Morath as he visits with superintendents in a daily phone call.

I pray that each of you is able to step away from this and spend time relaxing and recharging. I hope you have a great Spring Break!!

Wade

Westwood ISD Long-Range Instructional and Facilities Steering Committee

At 6:00 p.m. on March 10th and 12th in the High School cafeteria, Westwood Independent School District will be holding two informational meetings about the establishment of a steering committee that will be responsible for the development of a long-range instructional and facilities master plan. This master plan will serve as a road map to further the Westwood ISD - Strategic Plan 2017-2020.

In the formulation of this master plan, the committee will discover best practices for 21st century learning and how to best accomplish these strategies in terms of teaching and learning, student instruction, technology, facilities, equipment, and the like. We anticipate this work will also serve as a precursor to the development of a strategic plan for the next 5 years.

The Board of Trustees is seeking community involvement and leadership in the development of this long-range master plan. Two informational meetings will be hosted by Westwood ISD so that any interested community member living in the district can learn about the role and responsibilities of the steering committee and how each committee member can become an active participant in the future of Westwood ISD.

Participation in the steering committee will require attendance in the first meeting of the Long-Range Steering Committee that will be held in High School cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. on March 24th. If you are interested in helping shape a positive future for Westwood ISD, the WISD Board of Trustees welcomes and appreciates your involvement.
