About Me

Hello!! Thanks for visiting my page. I am so glad to be your child's teacher. I have been teaching for more than 20 years from elementary to high school. I began my career as a middle school science teacher. I later transitioned into high school science. After a time I wanted to move into a different field of education so I chose elementary reading. When I began teaching in the elementary I felt I had found my place and my passion. I decided to become an expert in this area and obtained my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with and emphasis in literacy. This means that I am now considered a reading specialist. I love teaching children how to read. I love seeing them grow as readers and to see the look on their faces when they realize they are good readers!!
I will be teaching your child to not only read but to analyze what they are reading. They will learn to study how the author crafts the writing to create the feelings, mood, and organizes the writing to convey information to the reader. We will be looking at fiction and learn about plot, characterization, and figurative language. Reading in the upper elementary grades is more about analyzing what you have read and how the author crafted it as well as gaining information about a topic. We build on their reading ability and develop strong, sharp comprehension skills.
Just a little bit about me: I currently live alone with my 3 dogs, Honey, Josey, and Teddy in Elkhart. They mean the world to me. I have several hobbies including reading, playing piano, singing, arts and crafts, and ceramics. I have a grown daughter as well. I am adjusting to the empty nest, LOL!
I look forward to having a great year with your child!
